BAY

It's 60 days since the United Nations released a damning report containing 94 complaints against the rights and conditions for over 400 inmates at Guantanamo Bay in Cuba.
It made seven recommedations to the United States, the first of which was that it should be closed immediately. Most inmates have been held without charge for three and a half years, some have been force fed, some tortured, and all have had either their human rights withdrawn, or have been kept under conditions which break the Geneva Convention.

Hmmm, I know that the force feeding was due to the hunger strike.

What do you think about it?

Idbug: Force feeding?! Surely a hunger strike should be regarded as an example of freedom of expression, however mistaken one may believe it to be.

There is no excuse for Guantanamo Bay - or anything connected with it.

The United States holds itself out to the World as the exemplar of democracy and justice and behaves like the most disgusting of undemocratic regimes.

The inmates should be charged or released immediately.

Shame on you America, and shame on Americans who do not condemn their government's behaviour.

being lenient with terrorists sends out the wrong message (believe me, i've seen enough in my country). that said, i do believe most of the inmates at guantanamo have been taken in by the authorities without any proper leads. apart from the force-feeding (and lack of contact with the outside world), i've heard of stuff like prisoners being smeared "with a brown substance" (a euphemism for you-know-what), and copies of the koran being flushed down the toilet (or was that in abu ghraib?). i'm not a muslim, but i know how that must feel. and there's no transparency either - if these are genuine terrorists, why don't we even have a proper list of names of guys interred? surely this is not how the self-styled custodian of democracy must go around protecting it!

If they can be proven as terrorists, shoot 'em. If they can't, release 'em. Can't have it both ways. Well they can 'cause they're the States, but they shouldn't have.

I guess what I would like to know, is how much is fact, and how much is fiction.

And I agree with 4D. Completely.

This clip is from a very popular show called The Stephen Colbert Report, which is comedic, yet bitingly outlines how embarassing Guantanamo Bay to many Americans: Formidable Opponent
